“Let’s do our best” will be screened at French anime film festival in the same new category as “Detective Conan” and “SAND LAND”

Set in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, which is rich in nature, “Ganbarite Ikimashoi” is an animated film based on a youth novel that vividly depicts the growth of high school girls who devoted their youth to rowing club, and the fluctuations in their hearts. (released on October 25th) will be screened at Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2024, the world’s largest animation film festival. This work, which allows you to enjoy the beautiful scenery typical of Japan, will cross the ocean and be unveiled to people around the world in France.

The original work by Ryoko Shikimura won the Grand Prize of the Botchan Literary Award in 1995. In 1998, it was made into a live-action film (produced by Altamira Pictures) starring Rena Tanaka, which became a long-running hit, and in 2005 it was made into a drama (produced by Kansai Television) starring An Suzuki and Ryo Nishikido.

In this animated film, the main character Etsuko Murakami will be played by Sora Amamiya, and the members who dedicate their youth to boating will be played by Miku Ito, Rie Takahashi, Akari Kito, and Ikumi Hasegawa.

The director was the CG director for Hayao Miyazaki’s (*Tatsusaki Zaki) short film at the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, “The Caterpillar’s Boro,” and “Even if the World Ends Tomorrow” (2019) was awarded the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Yuhei Sakuragi has a track record of being selected for the long-length feature competition category. The screenplay was written by Keiichiro Daichi, who also wrote The Quintessential Quintuplets. The character design is from “Love Live! ” by Asako Nishida.

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival will be held from June 9th to 15th local time in Annecy, a city in southeastern France. This film will be screened in the Annecy Presents category (non-competition category), which was newly established this year to showcase the diversity and richness of animation works from around the world. With the aim of sharing ambitious animation from around the world with audiences of all kinds, Japan has also decided to exhibit “Detective Conan the Movie: The Million Dollar Star” and “SAND LAND.”
