Warner Bros. Discovery is working on a live-action Yasuke film

A Warner Bros. Discovery revealed that he is working on a live-action film directed by Blitz Bazawule which will tell a new story of Yasukethe first black samurai.

An anime series from Yasuke premiered in April 2021 by the studio MAPPA (Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, The God of High School, Dororo, Dorohedoro) and direction by LeSean Thomas (Children of Ether, Cannon Busters, The Boondocks). The series was later adapted into a manga by Satoshi Okunishi.

For now, the film Yasuke in Hollywood is titled “Black Samurai” and will tell a new reinterpretation of the samurai story.

According to Varietythe film by Yasuke will have shades of “Mad Max” It is “300” in its aesthetic, which means it could be much more fantastic than the story that started it all.

In the description of the anime’s story we can read:

In a war-torn feudal Japan with mechs and magic, a retired ronin must pick up his sword when he is tasked with the task of transporting a mysterious child that dark forces want to eliminate.

The protagonist of the story is based on the historical figure Yasuke, a samurai of African origin who served under Oda Nobunaga during Japan’s Warring States period in the 16th century.
