The movie “SLAM DUNK” will be screened again in August! An unprecedented 300+ theaters nationwide. Netflix will start streaming in June.

The anime film “THE FIRST SLAM DUNK,” which was released on December 3, 2022, has been announced to be screened again at over 300 cinemas nationwide from August 13. A revival screening on this scale is extremely rare, and it was announced that the film will be exclusively distributed on Netflix from June 10, making this the first time it will be distributed.

Movie Tickets for the revived screening will go on sale from June 21st, and the Movie Tickets sold when the film was first released on December 3rd, 2022 have expired and will therefore not be valid for the revived screening starting on August 13th.

The film is based on the basketball manga “SLAM DUNK,” which was serialized in “Weekly Shonen Jump” from issue 42 in 1990 to issue 27 in 1996. It depicts the story of the protagonist, Sakuragi Hanamichi, a basketball novice who joins the Shohoku High School basketball team, but whose talents rapidly blossom as he clashes with teammate Rukawa Kaede and plays against strong opponents.

The thrilling depictions of the games and the characters who devote their youth to basketball have resonated with readers and have garnered overwhelming support, with the total number of copies of the series in circulation in Japan exceeding 120 million. A total of 101 episodes of the TV anime were broadcast from 1993 to 1996.

The new film will be directed and written by the original author, Inoue Takehiko, and animation will be produced by Toei Animation/Dandelion Animation Studio.

The voice cast for the five Shohoku members has been completely changed from the TV anime version, with Nakamura Sougo as Miyagi Ryota, Kasama Jun as Mitsui Hisashi, Kamio Shinichiro as Rukawa Kaede, Kimura Subaru as Sakuragi Hanamichi, and Miyake Kenta as Akagi Takenori.

The film attracted 10,959,356 viewers and earned 15,868,734,020 yen in box office revenue.
