■Status of the day
When Mr. Hideaki Anno arrived at the venue on the day of the event, he first toured the Aichi exhibition venue.
In conjunction with Mr. Anno’s surprise visit, 14 students from Nagoya Gakugei University who helped set up a miniature set for verifying the scene settings and screen composition of the third village that appears in “Shin Evangelion the Movie” were invited. . In response to the student’s question, “What’s the best part about creating a work with friends and other people?”, the student answered, “Staff and friends come up with ideas that I wouldn’t have come up with on my own, which makes the work more interesting.” “I have some troubles with relationships, but it’s fun to work with other people,” Mr. Anno said. Although all the students looked a little nervous, the gallery talk proceeded in a relaxed atmosphere.
Lastly, Mr. Anno responded to the press who had gathered in a hurry after receiving the news of his surprise visit. In response to the question, “How do you personally perceive the Hideaki Anno exhibition?”, he answered, “I hope it will inspire the people who see it.” Especially for the younger generation, I want to convey the difficulty and fun of making animated special effects images through intermediate productions. I’d be happy if this message gets across and attracts as many talents as possible to this industry.”
The “Hideaki Anno Exhibition” was held at a total of 7 venues nationwide. Although there is a possibility that it will develop into a different form in the future, the current form will end at the Aichi venue. When asked about the highlights of the Aichi exhibition, which will be held in the final venue, Mr. Anno commented that the difference from other venues is that “We have increased the number of exhibits of “Shin Kamen Rider” and “Space Battleship Yamato,” which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. He also left a handwritten signature on the wall at the entrance to the exhibition room, expressing his hope that more visitors would come.

[Exhibition contents]
“Shin Evangelion the Movie”, for which he served as executive director, attracted 6.73 million viewers and box office revenue of 10.28 billion. This exhibition explores the secrets of the creative activities of Hideaki Anno, whose popular works include “Shin Ultraman” in 2022 and “Shin Kamen Rider” in 2023.
A huge amount of handwritten notes and illustrations, scripts, settings, image sketches, storyboards, layouts, etc. that are essential for creating unique videos… It covers everything from past works in which he participated as a student, amateur, and animator to the latest works in which he was active as a director and producer, and a variety of production materials from original drawings to miniature sets are on public display! In addition, many valuable original drawings and miniatures from “anime” and “special effects” that were the starting point of Mr. Anno’s creative activities will be on display.
