The racing machine “Oku AN-21” that appears in the popular anime series “New Century GPX Cyber ​​Formula” was released by Megahouse as a fully transformed toy, but when trying to move the display stand, his hand accidentally slipped. It got stuck and fell. By the time I thought, “This is crazy!'', the tip had already fallen apart.

I was going to send it in for repair by the manufacturer, but apparently this product is not accepted for repair. A product that costs nearly 40,000 yen is in a pitiful condition.

But Knight Schumacher also said it in the TV series. “Racers only get off the machine after passing the checkered flag.'' Yes, if you give up, the game is over!

Therefore, in this article, with the theme of “repair techniques that anyone can do on a low budget,'' I will report on the repairs that I have actually carried out in the past. I would like to explain the procedure and precautions for your convenience.

Tools and materials used in this repair

・Brass wire…leftover material (probably around 150 yen)

◆The actual work performed was to duplicate parts.
The vehicle targeted for repair was the “Variable Action Hi-SPEC New Century GPX Cyber ​​Formula SIN 凰呀AN-21,'' which Megahouse released in 2021 and just resold in January 2024.

Megahouse is developing the “Cyber ​​Formula” series in the “Variable Action” series, which reproduces the transformation mechanism and boost form by replacing parts, but the “Variable Action Hi-SPEC” series implements a higher-grade gimmick. As a fully transformed model, we have achieved a gimmick that does not require replacement.

The Hi-SPEC version of Oku that was the subject of repair also has a wonderful transformation mechanism, and it can fully transform into five modes: circuit mode, mirage turn mode, aero mode, aero boost mode, and super aero boost mode. Reproduction. As you would expect from an expensive toy, each part is made of metal parts, so you can enjoy the feeling of it squishing in your hands.

What I ended up doing was the front part attached to the front of the front wheel.

The pin at the base and the arm used to move the parts were broken cleanly.

In both cases, it is not a matter of simply gluing them together. A certain level of strength must be ensured to allow for the movement of parts.

The pin only needs to be resistant to lateral force, so I decided to use a pin vise and embed the brass wire inside. The repair of this part is now complete.

The problem is the broken arm.

Instant adhesive isn't durable enough, and there isn't enough space to embed brass wire. So I decided to take the plunge and duplicate the parts themselves.

Two things were used: “Katatori-kun,'' which is used to take molds of parts, and “PraRepair,'' which is the material for replicating parts. Both are sold by Muto Shoji, and are also sold at electronics stores as repair materials.

The steps are easy.

1.Restore the damaged parts to their original shape using superglue.

2. Make a mold of the part to be copied using “Katatori-kun”.

3. Pour “Pura Repair” into the mold and duplicate the parts.

4. After waiting for it to harden, remove it from the mold and adjust it.

“Katatori-kun” is easy to handle, just soften it with hot water and press it onto the part. Since it can be shaped freely like clay, it can be reproduced relatively clearly even with detailed molds.

All that is left to do is pour the “Pura Repair'' mixing liquid into the completed mold and sprinkle the powdered repair material there.

The replication is now complete. This is also easy enough for beginners to use.

*However, the smell is strong, so please work with good ventilation. It smells like dentist fillings.

There is no need to mix the liquid and repair material powder. The powder absorbs the liquid, so basically all you have to do is sprinkle it on top of the liquid.

The only thing to be careful about is adding a little more powder. A little extra is just right.

Some people may be worried that the color of the completed duplicate parts will be slightly uneven, but there is no problem in that state, so there is no need to worry at all! After sprinkling the powder on the liquid, cover the lid of the mold and leave it for about 5 minutes to complete hardening. Once you cut and trim the protruding parts, you are done duplicating the parts. (room temperature 25 degrees)

In fact, it's so simple that I can't write any more about it as an article, but if I could add a few tips or supplements, it would be to make the process easier and stronger.

The parts we duplicated this time will be moved frequently, so unless they have a certain level of strength, they will break again. I used “Pura Repair” because its strength is reliable to a certain extent, but if you are not looking for much strength, a repair material that is cured by UV irradiation may be fine.

Also, when making a mold, it will be easier to position and work if you create unevenness to act as a guide so that the top and bottom of the mold fit together easily. I made a hole on one side with a waribashi, then made about three protrusions on the other side, then pressed it against the part.

There are a variety of mold-making tools available, but the plastic model sections of model stores and large-scale retail stores usually have shelves full of tools and repair materials, so it's a good idea to look there for items that seem easy to use. . You may also come across tools and paints that you didn't know about.

By incorporating the duplicated parts into the main body, we were able to somehow restore the original deformation mechanism.

These days, figures and toys are generally produced according to the number of pre-orders, so it is difficult to resell them. I'm really glad I was able to get it repaired. (It was later resold…)
