Furiosa was initially conceived as an anime project and has been ready for 15 years

The film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga) will debut on May 23, but its story has been ready for 15 years, when the project was conceived as an anime.

The producers of the prequel Mad Max, Doug Mitchelland the filmmaker George Millerconfirmed that they had already solved the story before filming the acclaimed film in the franchise, Mad Max: Fury Road.

In conversation Mitchell revealed “So Furiosa was ready, in a story sense, 15 years ago” and “has been percolating, as things do, in George’s brain, ever since.”

Miller confirmed that this was indeed the case, stating: “We had finished Furiosa’s story before we filmed Fury Road“.

The producers initially imagined Angry as a project animepreviously titled The Peachwith Mahiro Maeda to be chosen to direct the film. Maeda has an extensive CV in the genre, having worked on numerous other projects, including the classic Neon Genesis Evangelion and one of the short films by The Animatrix.

In the description of Angry we can read:

Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures is produced by Miller and his longtime partner, Oscar-nominated producer Doug Mitchell (“Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Babe”), under their Australian banner Kennedy Miller Mitchell.

As the world comes crashing down, young Furiosa is taken from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a large Bikers Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping the Desert, they come across the Citadel presided over by Immortan Joe. As the two tyrants war for supremacy, Furiosa must survive many trials while gathering the means to find her way back home.

Taylor-Joy stars in the lead role, along with Hemsworth, the film also stars Alyla Browne and Tom Burke.

Miller wrote the screenplay with “Mad Max: Fury Road” co-writer Nico Lathouris. Miller’s behind-the-scenes creative team includes first assistant director PJ Voeten and second unit director and stunt coordinator Guy Norris, director of photography Simon Duggan (“Hacksaw Ridge,” “The Great Gatsby”), composer Tom Holkenborg, sound designer Robert Mackenzie, editor Eliot Knapman, visual effects supervisor Andrew Jackson and colorist Eric Whipp. The team also includes other longtime collaborators: production designer Colin Gibson, editor Margaret Sixel, sound mixer Ben Osmo, costume designer Jenny Beavan and makeup designer Lesley Vanderwalt, all of whom have won an Oscar for his work on “Mad Max: Fury Road”.
