Akita Shoten announced on the 21st that the cumulative circulation of the fighting manga series “Baki'' (author: Keisuke Itagaki) has exceeded 100 million copies. In addition, various projects were carried out to commemorate this, and a comment of thanks to readers was published from the popular character Yujiro Hanma (voiced by Akio Otsuka).

The “Baki” series, which has been serialized in “Weekly Shonen Champion” (Akita Shoten) since 1991, is a popular fighting manga that depicts the battles between various fighters, centering on the fierce fight to the death between the protagonist, Hanma Baki, the youngest champion of an underground fighting arena, and his father, Hanma Yujiro, known as “the strongest creature on earth.”

They engaged in “the strongest father-son fight in history,” ending with both sides victorious, bringing the feud to a temporary end. The sixth part of the series, “Bakirahen,” is currently being serialized, with many old characters appearing in the series.

It has also been made into an anime, and the first part of the original work, “Grappler Baki'', was broadcast in 2001. After that, the second part, “Baki'', aired in 2018, and the third part, “Hanma Baki'', aired in 2021.

The PV, which was released as part of a commemorative project, begins with Yujiro Hanma's words of gratitude to the readers who have sold over 100 million copies, and then introduces a message to potential new readers who have not read the book until now, based on a famous quote from the work. At the end, you can hear his message to the media, which is based on the lines from his own birth scene. The video will be released on the Baki series' official YouTube channel as well as on the large-scale vision of Studio Alta in Shinjuku East Exit starting today, the 21st.

In addition, to commemorate the cumulative total of over 100 million copies, the comic site Champion Cross will run a campaign where you can read all episodes of the manga series “Baki'', including spin-offs, for free for two weeks only.

In addition, a figurine of Hanma Yujiro in the split pose will be made into 18K yellow gold, limited to 30 units, priced at 3.85 million yen (the back panel of the collection case will feature a handwritten signature from the original author, Itagaki Keisuke), and 100 units will be made out of SV925 (rhodium-plated), and sold for 385,000 yen.
