Yuji Horii, known as the creator of Dragon Quest, responded to Dragon Quest Day on Monday, May 27th. He expressed his gratitude on his Twitter account and touched on the development status of the latest game in the series, Dragon Quest XI: Flame of the Chosen Destiny (hereafter referred to as Dragon Quest XI).

◆ Dragon Quest 12 is a worthy tribute to the last works of Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama
Horii first expressed his gratitude to fans for the many congratulations they have sent to Dragon Quest Day, saying, “Thank you all so much for all the congratulations.”

Then, in response to some rumors that the development of Dragon Quest 12 has been cancelled, he began by saying, “I'm sorry for causing you concern about Dragon Quest 12,” and reported, “In fact, we were just now having a meeting about it,” denying the rumors of the development being cancelled.

He also expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I can't say much about it yet, but I want to create something that is worthy of being the posthumous work of the two people who passed away. I'll do my best!”

“Dragon Quest 12” is the first numbered title since “Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age,” which was released in July 2017.

At the time of writing, there is still little information available, but features include “a dark atmosphere aimed at adults” and “a complete revamp of the command battle system.”

It's been about three years since it was announced at Dragon Quest Day in 2021, so we're hoping to hear some new information soon.
