Will the anime “WIND BREAKER” surpass “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” and “Kaiju No. 8”? GEM Partners, which provides data and digital marketing services for the entertainment industry, measures the latest entertainment brand value every month with its “Oshi Entertainment Brand Scope” product, which supports maximizing the entertainment business. Highlights of the latest survey results for May 2024 have been released.

“Favourite Entertainment Brand Scope” conducts a monthly survey on “currently favourite entertainment brands” targeting 30,000 people aged 15-69 living across the country. Rather than choosing from a pre-specified list, respondents are asked to provide free-form responses, and the results are collated (the process of examining the information entered by respondents and combining responses that refer to the same content) and compiled using the “Entertainment Content Dictionary” developed by GEM Partners.

The top 15 entertainment brands that people answered they liked as “anime/special effects” and had the most fans since the previous month (April) were “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba,” which also ranked first in the “Number of Fans Ranking” in May (see reference article: “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” becomes the entertainment brand with the most fans with the start of the new “Hashira Training Arc” series”). Following behind in second place was “Kaiju No. 8” and third place was “Wasurei Battery,” showing that both works currently being serialized in the online manga magazine “Shonen Jump+” have expanded their fan base with the anime broadcast.

Looking at the age composition of “favorite fans” in the last three months for entertainment brands related to anime that began airing this spring among those ranked in the “TOP 15 with increasing number of favorite fans,” we can see that while “Kaiju No. 8” and “Wakakyaku Battery” both have a large fan base in their 20s, “Kaiju No. 8” is slightly older, while “Wakakyaku Battery” is spreading its fan base to slightly younger people. Additionally, “WIND BREAKER” has an extremely high proportion of teens (15-19 years old) to 20-year-olds, with an even younger fan base than “My Hero Academia.”

As mentioned in the April survey result highlights, as the “devotee ratio” of a favorite fan increases, the “monthly expenditure amount (per person)” tends to increase (see reference article “Analyzing the “devotee ratio” and “spending power” of favorite fans as seen in the rapidly rising STARTO “Ae! group” – April 2024 Entertainment Brand Survey Results”).

In particular, the “percentage of followers” for “KonoSuba: God's Blessing on this Wonderful World!” is high, as is the “per capita expenditure.” On the other hand, as mentioned above, the “number of fans” for both “Kaiju No. 8” and “Wa-kyaku Battery” are expanding, but the “percentage of followers” is still low, and nurturing fans in the future is considered an issue.

The “percentage of followers” for “WIND BREAKER” is higher than “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” and slightly lower than “My Hero Academia”. However, if we look at the “monthly expenditure (per person)”, “My Hero Academia” is above the trend line, and the expenditure is higher compared to the percentage of followers. In contrast, “WIND BREAKER” is below the trend line, and the monthly expenditure is lower compared to the percentage of followers.

Looking more closely at the spending habits of WIND BREAKER fans, the “maximum acceptable spending amount” was also lower than the percentage of believers, and the apparent “hunger” that is the gap in spending amount cannot be said to be large. However, since the percentage of believers among WIND BREAKER's favorite fans is high, there is a good chance that they have a latent willingness to spend, and it may be possible to increase spending by developing related products and events.
