Strategy books are essential when talking about retro game culture. A wide variety of strategy books were released by different publishers, but the one who completed all 124 Famicom strategy books published by Futabasha was Famicom collector MOMO.

MOMO started collecting Futabasha strategy books in the early 2000s. It all started when I happened to see a pink obi while collecting Famicom software at used bookstores in my prefecture. The store prices were cheap, around 100 to 500 yen, so I started collecting them.

In addition to this, in the later stages of collecting, I mainly purchase online such as Yahoo! Auctions, Amazon, and Mercari. It took about 20 years, but the completion was achieved with the acquisition of the last book, “Crayon Shin-chan.” There were two strategy books for Kaiju Monogatari with different cover art…I didn't know that.

Among them, the one he introduced that he has a special fondness for is the strategy book for “Famista '91.'' This is not a new book, but one that he has kept in his possession ever since.

He says that he studied the data list in this book until he was bored, trying to figure out how to create the strongest order using the in-game trade function. By the way, his favorite team is the Seibu Lions. Speaking of sports games back then, I have fond memories of how the players' names were not their real names.
