Did you know that the mask of the devil general who appears in the manga “Kinnikuman” was made realistically by combining Japanese manufacturing techniques?

Castem Co., Ltd. is a precision casting manufacturer in Hiroshima Prefecture. Mr. Ikeda of the new business headquarters “IRON_FACTORY” has been attracting attention by appearing on SNS wearing an elaborately made devil general mask.

Castem has been trying to make the masks that appear in “Kinnikuman” realistic. The types are “Robin Mask” and “Devil General”, which attracted attention this time. Both products have been a hot topic since their release, and are often seen on social media.

However, Mr. Ikeda posted on X (Twitter), “Robin Mask is quite well known, but Demon Shogun is hardly known.” In the photo posted, he is seen wearing a devil general mask and sitting on a chair with his elbows propped up, giving off a lot of the character’s atmosphere.

We once again asked Mr. Ikeda about the details of the Demon Shogun’s mask, including his commitment to it.

–When was the Demon General’s mask made? Please also tell us the details of how you created it.

It was released in January 2019. Since the first steel Robin mask was very popular (more than 300 have been sold since it was released in July 2018), we thought about commercializing the second one.

Demon Shogun is one of the most popular superhuman characters in Kinnikuman. Focusing on his ability to change the hardness at will, we commercialized the Demon General’s mask made of real steel (Mohs hardness 4).

— How hard is “Mohs hardness 4”?

It is made from “stainless steel”, which is a type of steel. I think there are many things around us that are made of stainless steel, so it will have the same hardness.

— How was the Demon General’s mask manufactured?

Manufactured using our lost wax manufacturing method. Also, the development period was about half a year.

(To put it simply, the lost wax manufacturing method is “casting” in which molten metal is poured into a mold. However, Castem Co., Ltd.’s casting method is called “precision casting” and is more precise than regular casting.) It seems to be beautifully metallized.)

— Please tell us about the difficulties and points you paid attention to when making the Demon General’s mask.

Although the Demon General has the ability to change its hardness at will, it is famous that he is made of “diamond” in the work.

As a result, I found myself in a big dilemma of thinking, “Is it possible to somehow recreate the setting that it’s made of diamonds?” and “But of course it can’t be made of diamonds, so what should I do?”

In the end, I searched on Google and found ITEC in Sabae City. They had a patented technology that plated nanodiamonds on the surface.

“Diamond Power Ver.”, which was completed in cooperation with ITEC, was sold for 1 million yen (limited to 3 units), but it was sold out within 5 days after its release.
