In the same interview in which he stated that young people prefer remakes, Hideaki Annothe creator of Neon Genesis Evangelionacknowledged that there may be plans for more in the franchise Evangelionbut possibly with someone other than himself in command, who would be given a high degree of freedom.
He added that there are still no defined plans for the franchise, but that he does not rule out the possibility of future continuations.
Hideaki Anno commented:
Hmm, there might be something to that. The prospect of a sequel to Evangelion made by someone other than me could exist. I haven't decided yet – or rather, it's better for work if there is a high degree of freedom. Whether it is commercially viable or interesting will depend on the content. It's not like I'm saying I'll never do another one or anything like that.
