On the 23rd, Square Enix's smartphone game “Dragon Quest Champions” (DQ Champs) announced via its official website that it will end service on July 30th.
The site says, “Thank you for always using Dragon Quest Champions.
We regret to inform you that the service for “Dragon Quest Champions'' will end at 15:00 on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.'' “The entire management team would like to sincerely apologize to our loyal customers for this sudden announcement,” the company wrote in its apology.
“Since we started our service on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, we have worked hard every day to provide better service, but we have come to the conclusion that it will be difficult to provide services that satisfy our customers in the future. As a result, we have decided to terminate the service.”
In-game events will continue to be updated until the service ends. In addition, “After the service for Dragon Quest Champions ends, we plan to release an 'Adventure Record' where some data, such as player information, can be viewed on the website. More details will be provided in the game and on the official website.”
Producer Takuma Shiraishi sent a message on the official Twitter account, saying, “Dragon Quest Champions is a title with a different gameplay and genre than the existing Dragon Quest (DQ) series titles. We took on various challenges to give DQ series fans a different gameplay experience. When service began, a lot of people jumped in wondering, 'What is a new DQ title like?' and of course even now many people are still enjoying it, but the overall number of players is decreasing. We considered various options to continue the service, but came to the conclusion that it would be difficult to provide a service that would satisfy everyone in the future, and so we have decided to make this announcement. We are truly sorry.”
Service starts on June 13, 2023.
