Karateka talks for the first time in 5 years! Taro Yabe's new manga “Made of Presents'' is a hot topic!

Taro Yabe is a comedian, manga artist, and has become a hot topic for his appearance in the taiga drama “Hikaru Kimi e''. I was able to have a conversation with my partner Shinya Irie for the first time in five years regarding his new comic essay “Made of Presents'' published by Shinchosha on March 27th.

Taro Yabe, a comedian and manga artist, has released many popular works one after another, including “Oya-san to Boku,'' which won the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Award for Best Short Story and became a huge hit, as well as “My Dad'' and “Manga Boke Biyori.'' doing. Additionally, she is currently appearing in the taiga drama “Hikaru Kimi e'' as a servant to the main character, Mahiro (Yuriko Yoshitaka), and is expanding her range of activities beyond her entertainment career.

Mr. Yabe often receives things from people. My landlord, my father, my senior comedians, my co-stars, and that special someone… “Made of Presents'' depicts various experiences of “receiving and giving'', both tangible and intangible, sometimes heartwarmingly and sometimes deeply.

It also includes memories with his partner, Shinya Irie. Yabe says, “I drew it because I wanted Irie to read it.'' Meanwhile, Irie also mentioned a “present'' from Yabe, saying, “Those words definitely saved me.'' From the time they met, to the formation of Karateka, to the African location shooting in their 20s when Irie was jealous of Yabe, to the horror of how a well-intentioned “present” could turn into trouble, and to Irie, who was on the verge of despair. I feel like the reason I get excited when I open a present is because it's both a great joy and a scary thing.

Taro Yabe

Born in 1977. Comedian and manga artist. He formed Karateka in 1997. He is not only a comedian, but also an actor on stage, in dramas, and in movies. His first manga, “Oya-san to Boku,'' won the 22nd Osamu Tezuka Cultural Award for Best Short Story.

His other books include “My Landlord and Me From Now'', ““My Landlord and Me'''' (co-authored), “My Father'', “Backstage Tona-kun'', and “Manga Boke Biyori''.
