  • Background to the creation of the “Otoori Otokoshi NFT”

Stamp rallies are an opportunity to get around town, learn about the local charms, and make memories. Regular stamp rallies require physical stamps, but the backing paper on which the stamps are collected deteriorates, while digital stamp rallies have the disadvantage that if the operating website disappears, the stamps can no longer be viewed, making it difficult to preserve the memories of the stamp rally in a tangible form.

Therefore, by using “NFT,” which employs “full on-chain data” technology that means the original data cannot be tampered with or erased, “Otourioshi NFT” was born from the desire to “preserve memories in a tangible form semi-permanently.”

What are NFTs?

NFT (Non-Fungible Token) is also known as “non-fungible token” in Japanese. It is a token (electronic voucher) issued using blockchain technology, which allows digital data to have uniqueness.

  • What is the “Otoori Otokoshi NFT” project?

“~ Kyoto's 1200-year history with the 'Otoori Otokoshi NFT'”

The tagline for “Odoori Otokoshi NFT” conveys the message that “Odoori Otokoshi” will continue to preserve the 1200 years of history through NFT in Kyoto, the setting of the show. And it will continue to forge a new 1200 years of history.”

This time, for about two weeks starting from Sunday, June 2nd, the Kyoto International Manga Museum will be hosting a quiz rally around the museum with “Karasuma” from “Odori Otokoshi,” a characterization of Karasuma Street in Kyoto.

The purpose of this event is to provide an opportunity for participants to answer quizzes about the Kyoto International Manga Museum, learn more about its attractions, and create memories of their time in Kyoto.

In addition, at this event, a limited edition NFT design will be issued in collaboration with Shion-chan, the character of NFTDrive Inc. (hereinafter referred to as NFTDrive), which is based in Kyoto and is also helping with the production and supervision of Otoori Otokoshi NFTs, and Karasuma from Otoori Otokoshi. These will be given as gifts to event participants and sold on the purchasing site. Special stickers will also be given away.

*NFT sales information will be announced on the official “Otori Otokoshi NFT” website.

  • What is the Kyoto International Manga Museum?

A joint venture between Kyoto City and Kyoto Seika University, the museum aims to collect, store, and display manga materials, which are now attracting worldwide attention, conduct research on manga culture, and hold exhibitions and events based on these materials and research. This museum is a new cultural facility that combines the functions of a museum and a library. The museum preserves approximately 300,000 manga materials, ranging from Edo-period caricatures and ukiyo-e prints to magazines from the Meiji, Taisho, and early Showa periods, postwar rental books, current popular works, and overseas works. The results of research conducted based on these materials are presented and made public in the form of exhibitions, seminars, and workshops. The building is the former Tatsuike Elementary School, built in the early Showa period, and retains its original appearance. It is also a declaration of the museum's intention to take over the role of the elementary school, which has long been a symbol of the area.

  • What is Otoori Otokoshi?

“Odoori Otokoshi” is an original character content set in Kyoto.

In Kyoto, roads are affectionately called “Toori” (street), and there is a deep-rooted culture of explaining places based on streets. This work focuses on this culture, turning the street gods who pray for the peace of the streets into characters called “Toorigami” (passing gods), and developing novels and drama CDs depicting their exploits. New Toorigami are appearing one after another, mainly in Kyoto City.

Furthermore, the project is expanding in a wide range of areas, including collaborations between this work and Kyoto's traditional crafts, as well as tie-ups with local facilities and businesses.
